NOW Local Chapters

    Chapters are where it's at!

NOW's structure is unique. Members don't get their walking orders from some headquarters that makes all the decisions about the organization. It is the members of NOW who set NOW's priorites and NOW's policies. And it is in the chapters, at the local level, that the real action takes place. That's the whole idea. Local chapters are everything. Do you want to change the way things are done around you? Changing business in our own backyards is the best, most effective place to start. NOW really means it too. NOW's bylaws clearly state:

"The local, grassroots chapters are the building blocks of NOW, serving as the focus of feminist action." - NOW Bylaws

    Local Chapters in New Hampshire

If you are just joining NOW, you can affiliate with a local chapter at no additional cost. Your affiliation will connect you with activists in your area, and allow that chapter to inform you of any meetings, activites, projects, programs, or actions going on locally. If you are already a NOW member, you can affiliate with a chapter at any time. Contact your local chapter, and they will help you do that.

    Starting New Chapters

No chapter in your area? The state organization is here to help you start one! We are happy to talk with you about what would need to be done, and we are also happy to help you do it. Starting a NOW chapter is not a hard thing. The basic guidelines to be recognized as a chapter are:

  • A chapter shall consist of no fewer than ten members.
  • A chapter shall formulate bylaws consistent with NOW's bylaws.
  • A chapter shall convene and operate for the stated purpose of NOW.
  • A chapter shall elect its officers.

  • Your new chapter will be able to decide for itself what its goals are for the year, and what actions it wants to hold. The policies and programs of each chapter are defined by its members so long as they are not contrary to those enacted by the national NOW bylaws, National NOW Conference or NOW National Board.

If you are interested in talking about the possiblity of starting a new NH chapter, please drop us a note or give us a call.
